Most of my gold prospecting is performed with a metal detector although I do sometimes use a pan when in the High Country - messing around in a mountain creek is a very relaxing way to spend a morning.

My main detector is a Minelab GPX4500, in addition to the standard double dee coil I also use a 10" Minelab mono coil - the 4500 is capable of using the mono even in the highly mineralised soils of the Golden Triangle. It is a very sensitive and capable detector and so it should be for the price!
